WISDOM
offering a weekly positive perspective

There
is nothing in the universe that I fear, but that I shall not
know all my duty, or shall fail to do it.
- Mary Lyon
Who was Mary Lyon? Why is she an important figure in women's
history? What makes her life inspiring? What did she
accomplish against obstacles which would have discouraged the
less determined? Why do historians call her achievement
"an astonishing feat?" How did she transform,
forever, the course of women's education?
Mary
Lyon was a schoolteacher from Massachusetts, an American
pioneer, and the founder of Mount Holyoke College, where she
served for twelve years as principal and teacher. She
changed the worldwide model of higher education for women,
particularly in science education. For more information on
Mary Lyon's life, see http://www.mtholyoke.edu/marylyon/.

you great and continued success!
